A buffered investment, such as a "RILA" (registered index-linked annuity), links gains to major stock market price indexes while providing up to 20% downside protection. So, if the stock market price index you have chosen goes up 15% in a contract year, and your maximum potential gain is 15% or higher, your account is credited with the 15% gain.* If the price index goes down up to 20% during the segment term, and you have chosen a "20% protective buffer," you are protected from the loss. If the price index declines 22%, your account will lose 2%. 

“Buffered” investments allow investors to potentially profit from the rising prices of major stock market price indexes while providing full or partial protection from downside losses.
